Apple is offering free 200GB iCloud storage to users

Apple is offering free 200GB iCloud storage to users

You can get 200GB of free iCloud storage from Apple, here’s how you can get it

With just weeks before the unveiling of upcoming iPhone 2018 lineup, Apple is reportedly offering free 200GB iCloud storage to iOS users as part of a promotional offer.

According to a thread spotted on Reddit, the free 200GB iCloud storage will be available to users for a period of two months. However, this offer will be valid only for new customers in the U.S., and not for users of iCloud’s premium subscription. Also, this promotional offer will be made exclusively available for new subscribers on four major wireless carriers, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint.

While the new iCloud subscribers will get free storage of 200GB for a period of two months, the plan will automatically renew after the free two-month window expires and users will be charged at $2.99 per month if it is not canceled. According to Apple, the billing will start automatically and if users want a refund, then they should contact Apple within 14 days from the billing date.

By default, Apple offers 5GB of iCloud storage free to all the users. Besides this, the tech giant also offers three paid iCloud tiers: 50GB for $0.99 per month, 200GB for $2.99 per month, and 2TB for $9.99 per month. In fact, the company began offering a free month trial of its storage tiers – 50GB, 200GB, and 2TB to its new subscribers earlier this year.

By offering such promotional plans, Apple is looking to make iPhone owners sign up for its services. Also, the new iCloud offer is a good marketing gimmick by the Cupertino giant to make more users purchase the iPhone 2018 lineup after its release.

Those who aren’t interested in the iCloud subscription, can go to the iCloud Storage screen, tap on Manage Storage, then Change Storage, tap Downgrade Options, and then select the free 5GB plan.

This iCloud 200GB promotional offer is not available to owners of Apple devices in other countries. Also, there is no official announcement from Apple about any such plans, but we can hope it may make an announcement in coming days.

Facebook Watch is now rolling out globally to rival Youtube

Facebook Watch is now rolling out globally to rival Youtube

YouTube alternative ‘Facebook Watch’ launches worldwide

Facebook on Wednesday announced via an official blog post that ‘Facebook Watch’ will now be “available everywhere.”

Considered as an answer to YouTube, Facebook Watch, the video-on-demand (VOD) platform, allows users to view video on different genres like sports, news, entertainment along with videos from content creators in their personalized Watch Feed. It also allows users to comment and react to videos on real time on Facebook Watch. For those unaware, Facebook Watch was only launched in the U.S. in August 2017.

By breaking loose from its limited availability in the States, Facebook is looking to attract more people to its VOD platform through its global reach and also increase its advertisement revenue.

“Every month, more than 50 million people in the U.S. come to watch videos for at least a minute in Watch — and total time spent watching videos in Watch has increased by 14X since the start of 2018,” said Facebook’s Head of Video Fidji Simo in the official blog post.

“Taking Watch global also means new opportunities for creators and publishers around the world. We’re expanding our Ad Breaks program so more partners can make money from their videos, and we’re offering new insights, tools and best practices for Pages in Creator Studio,” Simo added.

Ad revenue will be divided into two parts, 55% for the content creator and 45% for Facebook, which was also the same ratio in the United States.

“We’re building new video experiences that put people at the center, giving them the ability to shape the direction of the content. Over time you’ll be able to find new video experiences in your Watch feed, like Watch Parties, Premieres and videos focused on audience participation,” Simo said.

“We’re excited to bring Watch to everyone around the world, and invite you to join in the action in our new video destination,” Simo added.

According to Facebook, Watch has the following things to offer:

A place to discover new videos: Find the latest videos spanning entertainment, sports, news and more — all in your personalized Watch feed.

A way to catch up with creators and publishers you love: At the top of your Watch feed you’ll see your Watchlist, a collection of recent videos from Pages you follow. Customize this section by following more Pages or removing Pages from your follow list within Watch.

A home for your saved videos: If you see a video in News Feed but don’t have time to watch it right away, you can save it to watch later in Watch.

Videos you can participate in: We’re building new video experiences that put people at the center, giving them the ability to shape the direction of the content. Over time you’ll be able to find new video experiences in your Watch feed, like Watch Parties, Premieres, and videos focused on audience participation — like the new trivia game show, Confetti. And we’ll make it easier to find live videos so you can discuss the big moments as they’re happening.

Facebook has reportedly signed on Buzzfeed, Vox Media, ATTN, Group Nine Media and others to produce original content for Watch. The social media giant is also rumored to be in talks with news agencies including the likes of CNN and Fox News to soon launch a news-centric section in the Watch section.

To access Watch on iOS and Android, check out the Watch icon in your shortcuts bar or the “More” bookmark. Watch is also available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xbox One and Oculus TV.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 With 10GB RAM And 5G Connectivity To Be Launched On 25th October

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 With 10GB RAM And 5G Connectivity To Be Launched On 25th October

In a week Xiaomi will unveil its new flagship offering the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. This highly anticipated smartphone could outperform many flagship smartphones launched in the third and fourth quarter of 2018. So these are the two most exciting features that help the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 to stand out from the crowd.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3: 10GB RAM

Android smartphone manufacturers have always tried to push the limits in terms of hardware. OnePlus introduced the concept of offering 8GB RAM that sounds gimmick and worthless. That said, a smartphone with 8GB RAM outperformed even the current flagship devices like the Google Pixel 3 XL.

Additional RAM helps increase both the number and amount of time that open applications are retained in a phone’s memory. This cached data drastically improves the performance of a smartphone. Recently, Oppo announced the 10GB RAM variant of the Oppo Find X. Well, Mi Mix 3 could be the second smartphone with 10GB RAM.

It is worth noting that, it’s fairly difficult for human eyes to notice a performance difference between 8GB RAM and 10GB RAM until and unless both the devices are compared side by side. The higher end variant of the Mi Mix 3 will feature 10GB RAM.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3: 5G Connectivity

Next most rumoured feature of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is 5G connectivity. Well, the Mi Mix 3 could be the first smartphone to offer 5G connectivity in the world. This can be considered as one of the biggest technological leaps. The fifth generation of cellular mobile communication offers drastic improvements over the 4G network.

For instance, download speeds around 1Gbps will be standard on a 5G radio. You can consider 5G to be faster than the most modern day broadband connections. 5G connectivity will definitely help the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 to stand out from the crowd.

Apple’s New Patent Hints At In-Display Selfie Camera

Apple’s New Patent Hints At In-Display Selfie Camera

Next Apple iPhone may have a hole in its display, patent reveals

Apple who started the “notch” design standard that saw every other Android OEM incorporating in its smartphone is looking to trend set another legacy.

The Cupertino giant who had filed a patent back in June for a camera cut-out in the display has finally been approved. The patent titled “Integrated Camera Window” was approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on November 8.

The folks at LetsGoDigital who discovered Apple’s new patent shows an iPhone with a hole for the camera in the display. In other words, Apple is looking to place the iPhone’s front camera under the device’s screen in its future phones, thereby killing the notch design.

“Apparatus, systems, and methods for camera integration with a cover glass and for processing cover glass to provide a camera window for an electronic device are disclosed. A camera window can be integrated into the cover glass. The apparatus, systems, and methods are especially suitable for cover glasses, or displays (e.g., LCD displays), assembled in small form factor electronic devices such as handheld electronic devices (e.g., mobile phones, media players, personal digital assistants, remote controls, etc.,” the patent description read.

Besides iPhones, other electronic devices such as portable computers, tablet computers, displays, monitors, televisions as well as iPads, MacBooks, and iMacs could see in-display camera technology soon.

While patents are filed all the time, it is not necessary that every patent is converted into a finished commercial product or even a prototype. Whether or not, Apple will go ahead and implement the display technology in its future devices, only time will tell.

With this patent, Apple joins the list of companies such as Samsung, Asus, and LG who have filed similar patents in the past. However, Apple’s patent is a bit different from its contemporaries.According to the patent, Apple wants to fit the camera window with a ‘cover glass’ where cover glass refers to the display. This display technology is presently applicable only to the LCD screen.
